Many ask why would he leave a successful Pro Head Coaching position in Jacksonville?
I will not go into the multiple ties he has to Louisiana which have been discussed at length already.
From winning a championship standpoint, it is possible in Jacksonville...he has a competitive team this year and in the past....but realistically it is not probable, with Brady and the Pats, Manning and the Colts, and Roethlisberger and the Steelers in place for several more years...the Jags will likely get the wildcard and go 1 and done...at the most get to the AFC CG and lose to either the Colts or Pats....this is a likely scenario for years.
At LSU, he immediately competes for the SEC championship and by 2009 with the more favorable home SEC schedule....likely is one of the favorites to go to the NCG.
Would have to think his experience as a player and a coach in the NFL would be a major asset when speaking with young recruits.
As of today....Jack is on top of my List.

then this link is for you my man.
I know, I know....the dead horse has been beaten...I did not have the patience to read through all 10 pages of posts.
Just was pondering at my desk, and felt the urge to show my personal support for Jack.
Weighing the pros and cons...he seems like a Winner of a Pick.

Do we need to review the list of NFL coaches who have failed miserable when they cam to college.
Pete Carrol is one of the few exceptions.

While we're at it we can review the list of promising assistants (college and pro)who have failed miserably as College HC's...
Then we can review the list of promising College HC's from small programs that have failed miserably as "major" college HC's...
Then we can review the list of successful "major" college HC's who reach a point when the game had passed them by and were no longer successful as college HC's...
ETC. ETC. ETC......
If there was a secret magic formula for where the best "major" college HC's come from...I think someone would have figured it out by now!
NO ONE is a guarantee! Accept that!
That being said...JDR, get my vote!

It is a gamble....but jumping the gun and bringing someone in just to have a warm body in the position may be more costly in the long term...but you point is valid

Yes, name one SUCCESSFUL NFL coach in the prime of career who left the NFL, went to college, and failed. Dont quote some NFL coach who had a losing record and/or was fired.
