The rodeo you mentioned was probably held in the LSU Ag Center/Parker Coliseum, and University Shopping Center would have been on the other side of campus so doable for a walking field trip.
Village Square shopping center was on College (where Walmart is now) and too far to walk to campus. I don't remember a music store there but it's possible. I do remember Paradise Records on Highland near The Varsity and then later in University Shopping Center across the street, but this would've been later '80s for me and as others have mentioned, the name was probably different when you were there.
