Dale JJ comparisons

While neither of them are an X's and O's genious, there is something that sets them apart. Dale coached up team cohesion. JJ apparently does not. With Dale you would see improvement throughout the season. You might would see him get out-coached by really good coaches who had high level talent teams at tournament time, but you also saw his teams play together and bring down other teams that were supposed to be superior. In my book that is pretty good coaching. JJ, and Trent's teams do not have a plan. They are always out there just playing playground ball. They start the season and go about halfway through playing competitively for the most part and appear to fade down the stretch of the season. It's not really so much that LSU regresses. It is that we stagnate while other teams make progress. That is poor coaching.

I'm definitely not one of the Dale guys here, but I will say they are and always have been totally different coaches in style and manner.
Dale was willing to delegate coaching responsibilities to his assistants. His interests were many and varied outside basketball and I also think he was definitely ADD or ADHD whatever you call it and was not able to focus on the little details so he allowed his assistants a lot of responsibility.
I see Jones as being very hands on, and not delegating much. He has hired some good assistants but I have heard said from those close to the program that at times some of those assistants have been frustrated by the lack of input they are allowed.
And I think motivation/accountability, whatever you want to call it, for all of Dale's faults he was definitely better at that than CJJ and if fact IMHO it is Johnny's biggest weakness.

In 25 years prior to Brown, LSU won 288 games and had been to only 2 NCAA Tournaments. During his 25 years, LSU won 448 games and appeared in 13 NCAA Tournaments.
He took his reams to 2 Final Fours, 2 Elite Eights, and a Sweet Sixteen.
And LSU fans use him as an example of failure. You gotta love this fricking place.

oh another rehash of the Dale couldn't coach blah blah blah....perhaps looking at the program he inherited and the mindset of the University and the public toward basketball you might form a different opinion. Those crowds cam to see PPM--not to watch LSU basketball.
To win the way he won --with minimal overall team talent--in most seasons requires something beyond being a good motivator. The thing about DB was though he wanted to win, he wanted to use his program to also give kids an opportunity in life.
There is no comparing the coaching ability/success between the two.
