Not punish, just maintain the norm
1 - Why the frick should we maintain the "norm" when the majority of Americans think the system is broken for cannabis? The only people that don't understand it's harmlessness are the religious zealots that refuse to look at any science around the matter. Cannabis is safer than TYLENOL. Tylenol. Acetaminophen. Seriously.

There are tons of people who currently smoke marijuana and get drug tested, and somehow they maintain employment...
I can't even being on this, it's so fricking stupid. So people are currently willing to risk employment to use cannabis (say for something like epileptic seizures) and that's okay with you? That they're forced to make that choice? Why? What gives the government that right? What makes you so willing to let the government decide what consenting adults do?
quote:
This is also the real reason why it hasn't been done. There are some jobs that, for safety reasons, require the employee to be drug free. Mainly because deadly accidents can occur. That needs to remain in place. However the legal aspects that will arise from an accident by someone testing positive for a "legal substance" will be huge.
Right...because companies are totally cool with their employees being lit up on booze or oxy while operating that heavy machinery.

So having anyone currently drug testing to continue after "legalization" is probably the best effort at meeting half way on the matter.
I'd argue that what's best for each company is up to their discretion. The government CANNOT COMPETE for top tech talent to help in cyber defense/analyst positions because SO MANY people with those talents use pot. Our laws are making the country LESS safe because a bunch of highly intelligent people can read, know that cannabis is relatively harmless, and decide to partake. Let's maintain the norm, though.

This is the exact point I was trying to make with #1. If Bob doesn't want marijuana users at his company, he will still reserve the right to not employ/fire them on that basis. That is also what I meant by the "norm".
Idk where you got religious zealots, or any of that other bullshite.
