Not really. He doesn't make a ton of money and he's still decent. Peat might beat him out, but he would be a damn good backup.

Agreed. He also is a great team guy to have. He's said multiple times he wants to help the team any way he can. I wonder if he can coach the oline.

Evans declined paycut

quote:

Veteran offensive lineman Jahri Evans declined an offer to negotiate a pay cut to remain with the New Orleans Saints before his release earlier this week, his agent told a Philadelphia radio station.

The Saints released the 10-year veteran on Monday, part of a flurry of moves to cut salary.

Jerrold Colton, Evans' longtime agent, told Philadelphia radio station WWIP that Evans planned to play elsewhere in 2016.

"The Saints came to us for the second year in a row about doing a little contract adjustment and pay cut this year," Colton said. "We weren't going to do it again.

"He's healthy and hungry and looking forward to the next chapter of his career."

Last March, Evans agreed to a restructured contract that saved the Saints $4 million against the 2015 salary cap.

Evans was scheduled to count $8.2 million against the cap in 2016. The Saints saved $3.1 million against the cap by releasing him.

The move had added urgency because $2 million of Evan's base salary would have become fully guaranteed on Wednesday. Additionally, a $1 million roster bonus would have taken effect next month.

In a statement to ESPN earlier this week, Colton said, "Jahri has appreciated 10 great years. It's been a great run for a kid from Bloomsburg with a great city and a great organization. And he got to ride it out with one coach, one quarterback, a lot of the teammates he came in with. Too good to be true. It's sad that it's come to end, but now he's ready for the next chapter."
