If a legalization initiative got on the ballot in Louisiana, I have little doubt it would pass pretty easily. The problem here is that there is no such thing as a signature driven ballot initiative, and there's very little chance of the legislature acting to give the people a chance to be heard. Police, prisons, big pharma, and alcohol all have too much to lose and will continue to lobby to keep prohibition in place. The last initiative proposed by Rep Honore (HB117) was pretty much laughed out of committee, and he voluntarily deferred the bill. Honore is now no longer a state representative. The tax money from an initiative could go along way to helping solve budget issues and improving our education system.

It will be on the agenda for the upcoming legislative session. I may be using the word agenda wrong but you get the idea. From what I've been told, if passed it will go to a vote of the people. In other words, the bible thumping north Louisiana fricktards will ruin it for everyone.
