The police unions are indeed an outspoken opponent to the end of prohibition, as indeed they were during alcohol prohibition. What needs to happen is that a portion of tax revenue from legal sales go towards police departments or pensions. It is a compromise that I don't like, but sometimes you have to grease the wheels to get things moving.

shite, looking at the retail prices in Colorado, it could still end up being cheaper even with crazy taxes on it.

If it's legalized we don't need to subsidize a bloated national law enforcement community. End the war on drugs and we can send 50% of these slobs packing with a pink slip and a mug to remember their time as a footsoldier of aimless authoritarianism by. It would do wonders for increasing professionalism among LEO ranks and public relations would improve with the quickness.

Why? Wouldn't this be less BS that they would have to worry about?

Besides, I'm certain there are a fair number of police officers/attorneys/judges that like to blaze up every now and then too. They could then do this without risking their careers.
