yep. If it were me, or if my kid was a big-time recruit, no way would I do it like that. Simply sign the papers in private.

Or if the high school wanted to do a thing for multiple players that were getting scholarships, I'd at least sit at the table with my other teammates and simply announce, with no drama or spectacle, that I was signing with ________.

Simple, classy, unpretentious. But that's rare nowadays.

I like that edge of the seat feeling though. Not knowing if that big recruit is going to LSU, Bama, or Texas leads to intrigue. And if he picks LSU, it's an amazing feeling. If he chooses Texas or Bama . But make i agree with the simple and classy part. Wish there were more humble guys. Fournette, to me, was a great example of how guys should do it.
