It is extremely important. My ex was bipolar (said she was a "high functioning bipolar") and it was sometimes like living in Bazarro land. And lots of times (in the beginning) what I would try and do to help would often be the worst thing I could have done. Read a lot about it and talked to specialists, but it was a lot of work to even be able to try and help. Eventually, the crazy was just too much and we had to split.
