My son (he's 14) is dead set on being a Blackhawk pilot. His mother and I are trying to steer him towards a more safe job like Air Force dentist or something though.

I was Navy...and SH60B's are almost all gone now...but Navy helicopter pilots have a pretty good life...H60's in the Navy are very much about vertical replenishment, reconnaissance, extending the ship's radar capability, counter drug ops, etc. When I was involved, some of what we did was target suspected smuggling assets in and around areas where there was a threat...they also do some search and rescue...but in a different capacity than the coast guard...it's a pretty cool gig...I was a maintainer and technician...electrical and power plants
