Someone beat me to it. Literally.
The Knick is pretty awesome too, but Banshee is definitely my choice for the most underrated and under-appreciated show on pay TV. When I see some mega-dollar bullshite like Billions do such a lame job with all the resources they have, and then watch Banshee do something so well with virtual unknowns and almost unheralded, it blows my mind.
Banshee is able to do that rare trick of being a fun to watch action show that can also build a story and characters well. I appreciate a show where actions have consequences and plots aren't left to dangle. And althought they didn't invent the 'harm or kill a major character or two in some shockingly horrible fashion' plot line, they do it just about as well as anyone. By which I mean it doesn't feel contrived when they do it.
I was absolutely shocked when they killed off Nola Longshadow. I expected her to have a bigger role later on.
Kai Procter and Chayton Littlestone are or were hellacious villians.
Clay Burton will take a starring role this season. That's going to be awesome.

Kai banging his niece is exactly what any red boned Quaker would do.
