Purchasing used iPhone 6s

I am looking to purchase an iPhone 6s off craigslist and wanted to know the steps to take to ensure that I will be able to use the phone on my ATT network (i.e. It's not blacklisted or stolen). I had a friend in college who was a guru with these things and would check things for me, but he moved back home overseas and I have lost touch with him. Information or good links appreciated.

I think you can check the IEMI number.
I suggest you have them meet you at an AT&T store and verify it can be used. That way if they are financing it and just trying to get a quick payout you can catch them in the act.

Ok, the seller agreed to meet at the police station, but that may be a better option. Can anyone else clarify the iCloud lock?

if you want to check icloud lock..
ask him ahead of time for the IMEI or serial number. it's in the settings/general area.. or maybe on the back of the phone or case it came it
go ahead and check that serial number or that IMEI number at Follow this link: LINK
then when you meet him, just check to confirm the serial number he gave you was the right one..
this way you don't have to waste any extra time.
if the guy is willing to meet you there, you should be fine though.
ask him if the phone is for at&t or at least unlocked to any carrier.. and you should be good to go. if it's not for at&t but he doesn't owe money on the phone he can put in a request to have it unlocked to use on any carrier. he will just need to call the phone company he purchased the phone from.. they will do it all for him.. more than likely the phone is already unlocked to any carrier.
again though, if the guy is answering all your questions and willing to meet you somewhere like that.. you really should be good.
to find the serial/imei numbers go to settings -> general -> about

Thanks for the info boss! If I run the iCloud and the imei will I be able to confirm that the phone is owned by the seller and not on "lease" from att? The seller did confirm that it was an att phone, should I ask him to unlock it, or would I be able to do that?
