I wouldn't think her future has to be so deterministic or, in a way, pessimistic. Of all people I'm sure she understands relative wealth / poverty is not deterministic of one's personal worth or potential.

Given her current position in life, her earnings potential should be increasing. I'm no wizard with money, but with her resources and connections I'm sure she can get herself into positions to start making money from other things aside from an athletic career.

I would hope considering someone with less is possible for her. Less does not necessarily mean worse. Lots of ways to view that I guess. But if that is the mindset she's in, then indeed it's going to be difficult for her.
