What? The President of the University put academics before Athletics (or more precisely, the politics around academics). His actions, while perceived as detrimental to the athletic program, we're aligned with his job description. Alleva is responsible for the AD. If he's ineffectual at making his case, he shouldn't have that position. It's not worth discussing here, but the President of a flagship University is supposed to consider more than athletics. The AD has one job.

Academics has nothing to do with private donors paying for a coaching change. But way to make that straw man. Hopefully nobody is stupid enough to believe anything that you have written. This wasn't about academics it was about.public perception.

I agree it was about public perception. That isn't a factor to be dismissed. I also believe it had a lot to do with the fact that many with decision making power truly believes Miles is a great coach. You don't buy the same year, make and model car as the one you currently have if it means still paying for both. If the deal for a true/guaranteed upgrade didn't work, it is not surprising that they decided not to make the change.
