I'm not patronizing you. That response was more to the board in general. And even in that context, it wasn't patronizing. It was trying to adjust the perspective based on my humble opinion. Sorry if it came off as condescending.
I don't blame the president for considering everything in excess of the athletic department any more than I blame the director of Athletics for not convincing the powers of the importance of his area of responsibilities.

What? The President of the University put academics before Athletics (or more precisely, the politics around academics). His actions, while perceived as detrimental to the athletic program, we're aligned with his job description. Alleva is responsible for the AD. If he's ineffectual at making his case, he shouldn't have that position. It's not worth discussing here, but the President of a flagship University is supposed to consider more than athletics. The AD has one job.
Academics has nothing to do with private donors paying for a coaching change. But way to make that straw man. Hopefully nobody is stupid enough to believe anything that you have written. This wasn't about academics it was about.public perception.

I agree it was about public perception. That isn't a factor to be dismissed. I also believe it had a lot to do with the fact that many with decision making power truly believes Miles is a great coach. You don't buy the same year, make and model car as the one you currently have if it means still paying for both. If the deal for a true/guaranteed upgrade didn't work, it is not surprising that they decided not to make the change.

I don't know if Jimbo was an upgrade but I'd like to think so. I truly believe the many millions scared F'King off.

Definitely. It might have been the wrong decision, but I won't pretend it should have been totally disregarded in the decision.
If they thought even Jimbo wouldn't do better than 8-10 wins the next few years, and they truly thought Les could do the same, in their eyes it would be dumb to spend that money for no significant improvement.

LSU fans shouldn't want Joe fired.
Only if he promises to take at least 18 hours worth of Public Relations courses next semester.

that's my hypothetical angle
Pretty sure the BOS has lengthy staggered terms, a new governor doesn't just get to appoint a new board.

I dont think Edwards would want to get involved in anything remotely related to higher education. Especially after the last 2 Governors messed that up for everybody.
I would not want to send my kids to a school that puts football before academics no matter who is footing the bill. The perception will be that the university is a spendthrift.
