I think it could've started a huge national conversation about the elimination of conference championship games because a lot of people would be asking "what's the point?"

CCG would be irrelevant. Both division winners would have two losses and a runner up would have 1 loss. The question would be over how to address nonconference games and the fact that teams in the same division have radically different OOC schedules.
The committee seems to put a lot of weight on conference champions, and I agree with them. If you didn't win your conference, then you didn't take care of business on the field. Tough cookies.
