Back in the day, Big Mama and Big Daddy were common grandparent names (as opposed to parents, who were just plain Mama and Daddy.) I don't know if it's still a thing. I don't know of anybody who currently calls them that.

I can see the olden days mentality though. As back when...it was common to name the first son after their fadder... and add junior till the end. And it would be big Joe, little Joe. or Jo Jo. or just junior.
