Financially there is no reason to buy whole life over term life if you're investing the difference. However, investing that difference is key.
I liken it to people who are married with moderate incomes, yet they file "single and none" so they can get a nice tax refund. If the only way you can save money is having the IRS to hold on to an extra $3,000 for you throughout the year, I guess it is better than nothing, but it obviously isn't the prudent financial decision.
