How is it ethical to shoot a deer at 250+ knowing you may just cripple a deer
For many it's not. The majority of hunters only shoot their rifles to check if it's still sighted in. That's normally not the practice needed for long shots.
I shoot on average about 30-40 rounds a week from 200-1200 yards. Most of my shooting is from 200-700 in my back yard. I practice in all conditions to be prepared but I still won't shoot a deer past 500 yards, there is too many variables for my skill level. However I don't feel the same way about a hog and I have shot many of them past 500 yards, the club I am in one of it's draws to me is LONG gas and power lines that have a long line of sight. I LOVE sitting on them and picking off hogs.
