Never have I seen such panic at a one point loss in their first road game against a major opponent. Marquette was fired up after a bad loss and played way over their heads.
That's the nature of forum's such as this. I was disappointed in the performance and I think we definitely lost to a lesser team, but I think it's something we need to get used to under CJJ.
He's going to bring in the players but he's going to lose a few each year to lesser teams in puzzling fashion. Sure I'd rather have a coach who could both bring 'em in and out-scheme the opposing coach but that's rare. If given the choice I'd take the guy that could bring in the talent every time.

It wasn't the coaching that made us miss wide open three pointers. It wasn't coaching that made us miss free throws.
What disappointed me the most was the defense. We just looked out of position defensively way too much both individually and as a team. Our footwork in guarding the dribbler seems to me to be poor too often. Lot's of work to do in that regard, something I had hoped the Australian trip would have helped with.

While the defensively we didn't play great, we did hold them to under 1 point per possession. Offense struggled early on. We needed to get Ben involved offensively earlier in the game. We are much better with the ball in his hands.
He played the entire game so I'm wondering how that will affect his play today.

As for settling for three's, it is just a fact that we really don't have much of an offense without them. There is no Johnny O'Bryant to post up and throw the ball to (man would we be tough if we did). Everytime Ben posts up or drives to the basket the defense collapses around him and what is left? Postup three ball shooters. I do agree that Simmons should shoot more when he drives rather than pass but once he does the three will go up.
Yeah free throws weren't bad but when you talk about a one point game two more would have made a huge difference.
Yes it was troubling that we couldn't get more stops on Marquette but they did hit a bunch of long three's that they don't ordinarily make. I don't remember, did we play any zone?
