We avoided Walmart when we lived in LA. The clientele was the determining factor. The Walmart near my house now isn't all that bad. I mean it's not the fanciest place and there are still a few people if Walmart there, but not close enough to make it not worth going there. Plus it is right outside my neighborhood, so I can pop in and out in about 10 minutes.

I didn't notice much difference from Louisiana to Houston. Even when I lived in Katy which is 90% middle class white people Walmart still sucked
I pretty much shopped exclusively at HEB there
