You don't think they are influenced by pre season polls? They watch the games like we do and see the rankings. They all also have ties to teams. This is not better than the bcs. In fact remember when usc got left out? They went to scheduling harder ooc games and went from playing 11 games to 12. They did the exact opposite of what you said.

These people have full time jobs. I barely have enough time to watch 1 football game a week, how are these people supposed to watch every team play? They don't, its a freaking joke.
