I agree with you. I would much rather it be just the media (people who are paid to watch and give their opinions on sports) who vote on it. The media can still have conflicts of interest (e.g. voting for teams that whose participation in the championship would be more lucrative) but that's not as bad as a direct conflict of interest that some of these people have.
