Once it came out that the cops story was that he charged them, it got pretty clear who was telling the truth and who wasn't-- if a giant dude charges the cops he's either getting shot/tazed or actually doing some damage and having real charges filed against him-- then the video was leaked and it was obvious the cops were lying.
