Total offense is a skewed stat. It's skewed by plays ran.
Yards per play is a pure stat because it's no skewed by plays ran.
For example- 2013 lsu was 12th in the country in offensive yards per play but we were 105th in plays ran so our total offense was skewed. Teams that run a HUNH have a les effective offense but they run far more plays so their totals are higher.
LSU is 6th in the country in offensive yards per play.
LSU is 119th in plays ran so it skews our total offense #s
The only thing keeping our total offense in the 20s is our lack of a HUNH offense.
