Not an advocate of shooting yearlings or anything, but we had a guy at the camp a while back who had never really hunted. Shot his first doe and to his credit, he was in a very tall box stand with a very long food plot. So being his first deer, I can understand his difficulty in judging size. His deer made the OP's look big. We marinated the whole thing and smoked it on the pit. It was pretty damned good.
