Wouldn't doubt it. Colder water, different prey source, could easily lead to different flavor.

The bluefish on the Atlantic and those in the Gulf are actually two distinct populations FWIW. They don't ever inter-breed due to geography and have markedly different life cycles. The ones in the NE routinely top 20# whereas ones in the Gulf rarely exceed 5#. So strange how the same species of fish can live so differently strictly based on geography.

To the OP: I've eaten gulf bluefish a couple of times. They're alright but I've always eaten them extremely fresh which helps.
