Actually, Wuerffel was one of their backups in that game. He only came in after the issue was decided. Spurrier knew he had potential and wanted to give him a chance to show what he could do. Those deep downfield passes were for evaluation purposes. That served them well, to say the least, as he became the All-American and Heisman winner that Spurrier himself was. He probably didn't mind running it up on us for not hiring him, but he was focused on developing his own players. The fact that we got beaten by that much was our fault, not his.
