Which is insane and shows a complete lack of reasonable judgement regarding that scenario. You dont risk a TD or incredible field position for the chance at maybe 5-10 yards of field position. The risk reward is so freaking lopsided.

Im hoping this isnt actually the thought process.

I was thinking about this while watching a replay of another game. The way you take out a dangerous returner, or "cover" your "kickoff coverage" deficiencies, is to just not let them return one.

I can't believe a coach is stupid enough to want them to return the ball just to save around 10 yards, even when they constantly give up 25 or more. I mean we are 106th in opponent KR, giving up 23.9 yards per return. We are also 124th in punt return, giving up 24 yards a return on our opponents' four returns.
