Dak Prescott is the best QB we'll face this year, and he played like it in the second half at home. Mississippi State went 87 yards in 14 plays then 82 yards in 6 plays for their TDs. That is impressive, but as a whole, the defense was good enough for us to get the win. It was our worst game of the season on defense considering how close the game was, but it is no reason to panic IMO.
You've already mentioned why we gave up the points we did against Auburn, so I'll ignore that game.
As for Syracuse, their first TD drive occurred after the Neal no-helmet penalty which helped Syracuse escape 3rd and 10. We then gave up a 40-yd TD pass on what seemed to be a broken coverage. It happens.
Their second TD drive started on the 44 yd line because our previous drive started on the 13, got backed up to the 8 after a penalty, and then Keehn got off a lackluster 38-yd punt. Syracuse had to go 56 yards to score, and we gave them 30 between a facemask penalty and PI on KTII.
Their 3rd TD was when we were up 34-17 with 5:11 to play. We were playing to keep everything underneath, and Syracuse was bailed out on the bullshite late-hit penalty on Deion Jones after running out of bounds on 3rd and 10.
All in all, considering how the TD drives occurred and where we were in each game, it is hard to knock the defensive performance thus far. Additionally, you can't single out the second half and ignore how dominant they've been in the first half. I wouldn't try to argue that the defense is elite this year, but they've been plenty good enough and to call them a liability is ignorant.
no one wants this logic, Miles sucks, he should have been fired in September of 2005.
