Except for Ohio State, and maybe a few other schools, the bands just don't have the pull they once had.

Truth. TBH, marching bands are usually boring and don't sound that good. Ohio St has a creative vibe that makes if interesting and the black colleges are fun too, but LSUs and most others are dull.
