Dismissing "The plan" theory

Is repeatedly putting your offense in 3rd and long situations, only to throw a pass up against the sidelines near or behind the line of scrimmage part of "the plan"? Miles offenses have done this forever. Run, run and a swing pass or a pass well behind the sticks up against the sideline with two defenders in the receivers face. He's done this with every quarterback he's had.

Notable games where this bit is was Kentucky 2007, the auburn 7-3 debacle with the #1 draft pick QB and 3 first round receivers.

It's a repetitive, unrefutable theme.

What is one age-old definition of insanity? Or of sheer futility? To keep doing the same unproductive thing, over and over, but all the while expecting different results?
