I'm not to that point yet. I'm going to try her in the back yard during the day for a week or two then make a decision.

What's wrong with this option in the first place? My dogs have always stayed outside during the day. WAY better for them than being in a kennel all day. I feel terrible when it's raining and they have to be kenneled all day. Also, look into dog day-care type places. Usually $7-10/day and they get all kinds of exercise and interaction with other dogs. Even bringing your dog once or twice a week should help immensely with the boredom in general.
