I've noticed the following:
Comparable in lumber prices but lowest quality is slightly better.
Lowes is way more expensive in their cooper electrical parts than hd with lucitron
Both are same in prices of name brand tools, but HD seems to be cheaper in their ridgid/husky brand vs lowes kobalt.

I shop at both but i believe only one offers a military discount... everyday.
