Almost 15 years in law enforcement and until now I have never felt the need to carry off duty.

I fear it may get worse, especially if attackers start to get away with it.

It costs 500 for a year long concealed carry permit and in band holsters are about 50 bucks. Working on getting mine after 9 Louisiana cops have been killed so far.

I carry, legally. Each time I see an officer on a traffic stop lately, I slow down far more than normal and observe what's going on. I'm not sure what the hell I'd do if I actually saw one in need of assistance in a life threatening situation, but my conscious thought is to stop and do whatever is necessary to have his or her back if necessary.

It's a damn shame I even have reason to think that way.
