My son is state champion in lead line 
but he rides about once a week. No helmet but probably should. Fell off once and busted his lip. Thats about the only injury I can think of.
Me and my wife have been riding and showing/roping for as long as I can remember so its kinda in the blood. As a kid you would be pretty board not to ride around my house
