and honestly, if its just one day, just stay in Seattle
eat, drink, shop...walk around downtown
maybe go up to Ballard or Fremont if you want to get out of downtown and see more of the neighborhood type places
if you want to leave the city, I'd rather take a ferry to Whidbey Island than try to squeeze a trip to Rainier in
