To burn fat and to stay in good shape. No matter how hard I lift, I've found it does very little for true cardio endurance. Running hard for 30 minutes keeps my heart rate elevated and burns more fat than weight training in that same time window.

I would think intense circuit training burns more calories than running especially throughout the day.
