You don't wanna stay in the burbs, way too much of a hassle getting in to the city (unless by the burbs you mean lincoln park area).
The restaurant everyone talks about is girl and the goat. Pequods has the best pizza, not giordanos or one of the other chains. Green mill in uptown is Al Capone's old bar, Flyleaf is nearby and has an incredible duck Reuben. Ada Street is a nice restaurant if you can't get into girl and the goat. Similar menu, just not as extreme
Also, if coming with your SO, Odyssey Dinner cruises are legit
