Need some recommendations on quality brands. Seems to be a ton of cheap crap out there. We like the look of the stuff at places like west elm, crate & barrel, etc. no idea how good it is and don't want to pay premium for crap. Thanks in advance

Of the big name brands, I've had a fairly good experience with Bassett... terrible, TERRIBLE experience with lazyboy.
Try to find an independent dealer that carries stuff like this:
Vanguard
Lee Industries
Stanley
Brownstone
Comfort Design
Sam Moore
Design NS
Weiman
Carter
Lyndon
Riverside

I hired an interior decorator to help create a designs and narrow down choices for our living room, keeping room, and dining room. I got tired of spending money on crap that didn't look good together. Was the best money I've even spent!!! Now, I love the look of how my house is decorated without the added expense of wanting to change stuff out every few months because of the pieces not complementing each other. People love the way our house is decorated. It looks like one of those homes you see in a magazine or on HGTV.
If you don't have an eye for this stuff, do yourself a favor and hire some professional advice. Will save you time and money in the long run.
