With Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook what is the point of actually attending a high school reunion?

Did you know that there is still a qualitative difference in face to face interaction versus interaction through social media?

It's true.

the OP makes a valid point. people don't go to reunions to have deep, life altering f2f interactions with others; its mainly to satisfy some curiosity to see how people have changed over the course of 10, 15 years etc. Social media/networking has rendered reunions useless for many people.

For myself, i am still good friends with anyone i was close with back in high school. most of my high school acquaintances(anyone i'd be curious about) i am Facebook friends with and i don't need to "catch up" with, because i already know what they are up to.

There is so much sad in this thread.

What the point of a social gathering of people from your youth?

To converse. To remember. Take a trip down memory lane.

An opportunity for nastalgia and to socialize like you did when you were young.

Looking at someones Facebook wall can't replace hanging out and catching up with them.

Going out and having a good time. And the after party, after the ice is broken and everyone relaxes is always a blast.

I feel sorry for a lot of yall who have grown so cynical and hard that you can't see the value in getting together with old classmates for a night. You've grown so accustomed to routine and malaise that the thought of venturing out scares you.
