I've never heard of nor seen a successful coach that at one point wasn't a complete dick to some or all his players.
I'm giving coach the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Being tough on your players behind the scene is one thing but throwing them under the bus in public is chicken shite.

This situation is odd.
Maybe he just did a poor job of explaining himself (he is young), but his statement makes him come across as either a prima donna or a pussy.
Maybe Byrd just thinks more highly of himself than his current production level indicates. He wouldn't be the first. But, most kids figure it out pretty quickly though and he was CLEARLY playing behind players that were more productive. And, if we are talking about 2B, it's not like Foster was a great player. So, there was ample evidence and opportunity for him to be humbled. This doesn't add up, IMO.
And, his dad was tough and played forever. I can't imaging that Byrd just can't handle criticism from a coach even if it is over the top and unfair. This also doesn't add up, IMO.
Byrd's statement isn't doing himself any favors though.

How many times does one give a jackass the benefit of the doubt before they are actively deluding themselves?
