I'm in I.T. I can wear a button up and tie or a company logo'd polo with slacks. Slacks can be substituted for jeans if working outside or pulling cable through an attic space.

One computer freezing up is probably pretty low on the priority list. Everyone thinks their little problem is an emergency. It's not. Some of in I.T. have network infrastructure, servers, upgrades, etc. to deal with. If your I.T. staff jumped every time a user thought there was a problem with his computer, nothing would ever get done.
