Good principles (which I favor) , bad applications (which is my main criticism of crossfit)

Complex motor movements with heavy weight to exhaustion is a bad idea

Totally agree. That's why when you are doing complex motor movements you use a light weight. The heavy weights should be limited to when you are solely doing Olympic lifts and not combined with other cardio movements.

This is the part about not being a fricking idiot....lol

Yup. The Olympic and power lifts aren't meant to be done til exhaustion. As the body tires, proper form(which is crucial for these lifts) fails, and the potential for injury increases.

Yeah that's the dumbest thing doing Olympic lifts for tons of reps when you are already fatigued

Best post in this thread.

I have been a huge crossfit critic ever since I first discovered it in like 2006, when this weaselly unathletic trainer at my gym showed it to me. I agreed with some of the philosophy and principles, but disagreed with numerous things.

I started doing it last week for a few reasons. I was curious, I got a free membership, and I needed some motivation because working out alone sucks.

I still pretty much feel the same about it. It's a great "workout" and the results speak for themselves, but all my suspicions were true in that it's awfully dangerous for regular people, many trainers don't give proper attention to people who need it, and there is no realm in this universe where I will agree with doing Olympic lifts for time.

All that said I'll continue to do it for the good workouts, but will avoid the shite I don't like.
