He was great his sophomore year despite all the crap he had going against him.
1) first year starter in the SEC West (back when the SEC played defense)
2) worst OL I have seen at LSU with both pass blocking and run blocking
3) a run game that only netted a little over 1400 yards and 14 TDs when you take out what measly amount he had (that included Russell Shepard who was a QB at the time)
He finished with nearly 2200 yards passing 17 TDs and 170 rushing and 1 TD in 11 and a half games. The game against Penn State the WRs dropped at least 3 TD passes and 150 yards. I remember ESPN showing the static of him being second in the country in the redzone (first being Kellen Moore).
IMO they changed him for the worse. We had no QB coach and they wanted him to play more as an option QB, when he wasn't that. He was a dual threat QB that could scramble.
It's a lot of blame that should go around for how he regressed.
