Most accurate estimates point to a decrease in about 6% - 7% of the overall total of privately owned firearms in Australia in the few years after the 1996 law was passed. Since then all of those firearms and then some have been replaced. Australia is a perfect example of the ignorance of gun-control advocates. They love to claim that the 1996 law stopped mass shootings but the had one in 2001 and another in 2007 or thereabouts. They also have rather frequent shooting involving "bikies".
