Not when using pure stats. Our total defense will always be ranked high because of our offensive scheme. Even last year when our offense was shite our defense was rarely on the field.

Chavis had ONE defense rank in the top 5 (2011) in defensive yards per play. He only had 2 defenses rank in the top 10 in yards per play (2011/2012).
Defensive yards per play aren't skewed by your offense's TOP. It's measures your defenses success when the opponent runs a play without being skewed by the number of plays their offense ran.

Someone had posted his 3rd down rankings, I was surprised that even in 2011 we were ranked 3rd or 4th in the sec on 3rd downs. Without tm being a turnover machine, I doubt people would have much love for chavis.
