No Kicker, Extra Flex???

we are contemplating making a change this year and eliminating the kicker position and adding a flex (RB/WR/TE). We are a 12 team PPR league and just looking for a change. Anyone played in a setup like this before? Pros/Cons?
If we make the change, I have considered reducing the roster size from 16 to 15, so free agency doesn't completely dry up.
New format would be as follows.
QB
RB
RB
RB/WR
WR
WR
TE
RB/WR/TE
Def
Bench
Bench
Bench

That's kinda dumb, kickers are top 100 players and a guy like Stephen Gostkowski outscored guys like Alfred Morris, DeAndre Hopkins, Calvin Johnson and Mark Ingram last season.

I understand that, its just an idea that I'm considering and feedback like this will help me/league decide. However, with the exception of a couple kickers, its basically a crap shoot.... I'd rather have the option to play a skill position in that slot.
I have some friends that have played without a kicker and they liked it, as long as the overall roster was reduced by 1 as well to keep free agency alive. However, they aren't the most serious fantasy players so before I made any changes I wanted some input from some on here.

We did this last year and it went over really well. Kickers are a joke. Adding a flex seemed to help the guys who did more research and navigated the later rounds better.

I like it. I want the same thing for my keeper league but cant get the votes. Hell, I would get rid of Defense too.
I would do this though.
1QB
3WR
2RB
1TE
1WR/RB/TE
DEF
I would do this though.
1QB
3WR
2RB
1TE
1WR/RB/TE
DEF

Same can be said about TE and DEF

I am in favor of dumping kickers. You spend no time thinking about them and just hold onto whoever you get.

Kickers just aren't interesting. Whether or not they are as predictable as other positions is irrelevant, although statistics show that they are the least predictable players.
It just seems pointless to have a roster spot for a position that fantasy players don't really care about. They are an afterthought, and it doesn't matter that they are.

true.... which is one of the reasons I'm contemplating making a change and adding another skill position.

Done it for the last 3 years in one of my leagues, and myself along with 2 others who are routinely the better/more knowledgeable managers end up in the top of the standings for the regular season each year. It 100% is more beneficial to you if you know what you are doing. Takes a lot more of the variance out of the game. Plus, the extra roster spot makes drafting, and player management that much more important.
Basically, if you are successful with fantasy routinely compared to others in your league, go for it. If not, keep the kickers.

how many teams are in your league?
Did you keep the roster/bench limits the same? The league I am considering doing it in is a 12 team league so replacing the kicker with another RB/WR/TE could dry up the free agency market pretty quick... that's why I've considered reducing the roster size from 16 to 15 so it won't affect free agency pool. This would put us with 9 starters and 6 bench players instead of the normal 9 & 7.

I'm in agreement here
