Got a quote today from mayflower today for a 4 bedroom house moving from Louisiana to augusta ga. Quote was 6990 for full service.
Does anyone think this is about right and are other companies notoriously cheaper than mayflower?
'Im a rookie on long disctance moving of a house. This was our first home.
For sale by the way.

I think that is actually pretty cheap compared to some of my moves....does it include packing, unpacking, and trash haul off?....

Get quotes from other companies and compare them.

yes that is everything. Packing, thrash, moving, etc..,
I thought it sounded cheap as well.
What i dont like is she said I cant be there when they weigh the truck. If it is more than her estimate then Ill be charged more, less than less. I dont like not being there for the weigh in.

That's very cheap if they're doing the PACKING, loading, hauling, and unloading.
Just had a friend pay $11.5K for the full service moving her fam (4 bedroom house) from Houston metro to Dallas.
Of note though, she didn't really have to shop around as her future employer payed for the move.

We packed and moved all boxes at my last house. The movers moved all the big stuff for a 3 bedroom house (furniture, beds, tables/end tables, and garage items). Total came to $950.
ETA: This was just a 10 mile move

But it should be certified. And you can get weigh tickets from the state lines as well to verify

I wouldn't get paranoid about it, as if there was a lot of variance vs their estimates in general, their business wouldn't be what it is. Since the drivers are paid to roll, I am sure that they just don't want to be waiting around at the scales for you to arrive....
I would probably use them if that was their quote...of course, my move was paid by my company and they may very well jack up costs for corporate customers.

Rent a pod. Pay movers 500 to move into pod. Get company to transport pod. Pay new movers 500 to move in.
