My nephew speaks, reads and writes Japanese*.
His advice to anyone concerned with a Kanji tattoo from a non-fluent 'artist' is to "not".
Of course, his IQ is roughly double the OP's, so I'll doubt the advice will be taken.
* A trip to JazzFest with him tattoo-reading the unwashed is fun. Lots of foods and consumer items represented on folks via their tattoos. Crackers, ink pens, household goods....
I'm sure the original intent was "Peace", "Harmony" and the like.
